WHAT IS WIC?
Women, Infants and Children's Program (WIC)
The Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) is a vital program that supports the health and well-being of pregnant women, new mothers, infants, and children up to age 5. By providing access to nutritious foods, expert guidance, and community resources, WIC helps families build a foundation for a healthier future.
WIC offers:
- Personalized Nutrition Counseling to promote healthy eating habits for mothers and children.
- Nutritious Foods to support growth, development, and overall wellness.
- Breastfeeding Support through education and resources tailored to each family’s needs.
- Healthcare Referrals connecting participants to essential medical and community services.
Good nutrition is key to a child’s development, preventing future health problems and ensuring families can thrive. WIC is more than a food program; it’s an investment in the long-term health of Kentucky’s communities.
You can participate in WIC if you:
- Are pregnant, have recently had a baby, are breastfeeding or have a child under age five
- Live in Kentucky
- Have a family income less than WIC income guidelines or receive Medicaid, or Food Stamps
- Medical and/or nutritional risk factors
- You or your family may be automatically income eligible if you or a household member receive Medicaid, SNAP benefits or KTAP.
